PALO ALTO, Calif.—May 3, 2011—Roger Royse, founder of Royse Law Firm, a corporate and tax law firm, announced that Joel Riff will head the firm’s Technology Transactions Practice effective immediately. “We welcome Joel Riff, a highly esteemed, senior level Bay area attorney, to Royse Law Firm. His leadership in technology transactions and licensing makes it possible for us to enhance our counsel and value to clients with highly sophisticated transactions.”
                     
Mr. Riff’s practice encompasses structuring and negotiating domestic and international intellectual property licenses and other technology transactions. He assists clients with complex licensing deals, including the formulation of creative compromise proposals and litigation avoidance strategies.

His background includes heading Fenwick & West’s licensing and online commerce group, co-chairing Hoge, Fenton, Jones & Appel’s intellectual  property group, and beginning his career as a computer programmer. He has represented Bay area startups and leading technology companies including Intel, Apple, Cadence, Intuit, Oracle, Symantec, Sun Microsystems, Mercury Interactive, Charles Schwab and Veritas and major overseas technology corporations such as Matsushita, Sharp and Acer.

Mr. Riff received his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1982 and his bachelor’s degree, with distinction, from the University of Michigan. He speaks and publishes frequently on licensing and other intellectual property topics. He will serve clients from the Royse Law Firm offices in Palo Alto and San Francisco.
